Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, Fifth Session
9-13 July 2012 (Geneva, Switzerland)

The Expert Mechanism will address: modalities for the 2014 World Conference on Indigenous Peoples, including indigenous peoples’ participation; a follow-up to its study on indigenous peoples and the right to participate in decision-making, with a focus on extractive industries; the draft report on the study on the role of languages and culture in the promotion and protection of the rights and identity of indigenous peoples, which will be submitted to the Human Rights Council at its 21st session; and implementation of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, including an interactive dialogue between observers and a representative of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues and the Special Rapporteur on the rights of indigenous peoples.
