The IGC will continue its deliberations on the draft articles on the protection of traditional cultural expressions; the draft articles on the protection of traditional knowledge; and the draft objectives and principles, and options for future work, on intellectual property and genetic resources. It is recalled that the IGC’s mandate is to conduct text-based negotiations to reach agreement on an international legal instruments (or instruments) that ensure the effective protection of traditional knowledge, traditional cultural expressions and genetic resources, without prejudice to the work pursued in other fora. The theme of the half-day panel of indigenous and local communities, to be held on 18 July, is: Making Sui Generis Protection Work: best practices in community-led strategies for the protection of traditional knowledge and traditional cultural expressions.
