This issue of the Kalpavriksh newsletter is focused on pastoral communities. Among other news, it includes reports from the 13th Biennial Conference of the International Association for the Study of Commons, a consultation in Nandadevi Biosphere Reserve, a national workshop on management of community forest resources under the Forest Rights Act, a pastoralists’ exchange programme in Rajasthan, the development of a biocultural community protocol for pastoralists, and the global gathering of women pastoralists. Case studies focus on: shepherding communities of the Deccan Plateau; conservation and pastoralists’ livelihoods in Rajasthan; and migratory routes of Pashtun tribe in Baluchistan.
