Arctic Council Ministers Sign Agreement in Nuuk

NUUK, GREENLAND: Held on 12 May 2011 in Nuuk, Greenland, the seventh ministerial meeting of the Arctic Council concluded with the adoption of the Nuuk Declaration and an agreement to cooperation in Search and Rescue efforts in the Arctic. In the Nuuk Declaration, ministers reiterate the importance of the use of Arctic Indigenous Peoples’ traditional knowledge and capacity-building initiatives in the planning and implementation of measures to adapt to climate change, while recognizing that climate change and other negative factors have impacted the traditional livelihoods and food safety and security of Arctic Indigenous Peoples and other Arctic residents and communities.
