The CBD Secretariat has published a number of notifications referring to upcoming meetings of direct relevance to indigenous and local communities and traditional knowledge, including opportunities for funding support; as well as the function of the Voluntary Fund for participation of ILC representatives in the work of the Convention.

International meeting on Article 10 (sustainable use of biological diversity) with a focus on Article 10(c) (customary use of biological diversity)
1-3 June 2011 (Montreal, Canada)

The CBD Secretariat has invited nominations for an international meeting on sustainable use of biodiversity with a focus on customary use of biological resources, to be held from 1-3 June 2011, in Montreal, Canada. Nominations should be submitted no later than 8 April 2011. The meeting aims, building on the Addis Ababa Principles and Guidelines, to develop further guidance on sustainable use and related incentive measures of ILCs and also consider measures to increase the engagement of ILCs and governments at national and local levels in the implementation of Article 10 and the ecosystem approach. Article 8(j) and related provisions: Ad Hoc Expert Group Meeting of Local-community Representatives
13-15 July 2011 (Montreal, Canada)

The CBD Secretariat has invited nomination of experts to participate in the ad hoc expert group meeting of local community representatives to be held from 13-15 July 2011, in Montreal, Canada. Nominations should be submitted to the CBD Secretariat no later than 29 April 2011. The meeting aims to identify common characteristics of local communities and gather advice on how local communities can more effectively participate in Convention processes, including at the national level, as well as how to develop targeted outreach, in order to assist in CBD implementation. MONTREAL, CANADA: The CBD Secretariat has invited ILCs to nominate representatives for the Advisory Selection Committee of the Voluntary Trust Fund for the participation of ILC representatives in the work of the Convention. Nominations should be submitted to the CBD Secretariat no later than 30 April 2011. The Advisory Selection Committee consists of seven ILC representatives, nominated by ILCs, from the seven geo-cultural regions recognized by the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues.
