Following renewal of its mandate by the General Assembly of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the 23rd session of the Intergovernmental Committee on Intellectual Property and Genetic Resources, Traditional Knowledge and Folklore (IGC) will continue negotiations on an international instrument/instruments, focusing on genetic resources. The indigenous panel will be held in the morning of 4 February 2013 and will focus on the perspectives of indigenous peoples and local communities on intellectual property and genetic resources, with UN Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples James Anaya as the keynote speaker.
